Maybe it's time for a proper update?

Whoa, it's been a while. Since I did a "Stuff I've Enjoyed Recently" post, anyway.

So here's some good stuff:

1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. So, this book is incredible. I've liked Murakami for years but I think this is his masterpiece. I could not put this book down. I read it in every spare moment I had and finished it within about ten days. It's simply mesmerising. Beautiful. Aomame made it to my favourite fictional characters list. And that's no easy feat. Although come to think about it I probably have more favourite fictional characters than I do favourite people in my life. Why are people who don't exist so much better than people that do?!

Then again...
Stumbling across Full House Reviewed certainly brought back memories. Man, this show pissed me off as a kid. I hated every single character on the show. I hated Michelle because she was an ugly little spoiled brat. I hated Stephanie because she was so. Fucking. ANNOYING. And I hated DJ because she got to go horse riding all the time. I hated the family as a whole because they had an awesome dog and I didn't (this is before I got my cat). I hated Danny, Joey and Jesse because they were all creepy stupid assholes. And every single character had this disgusting white middle class sense of entitlement. Even as a child it repulsed me.
And yet I still watched this goddamn show.
And now I'm reading a blog on it. I won't lie, I am addicted. It's a damn good blog. Infinitely better than the show itself, obviously.

I don't think I need to talk about why this movie is completely and utterly awesome. Totally 100% awesome.
And check this out - Franco Nero himself. Actual Franco Nero.

I can't wait to see this movie a third time. It makes me want to watch Inglourious Basterds again too. I've been watching a lot of Tarantino lately, hence all the swearing...oops.

What other movies have been good lately? I think I've mostly been re-watching stuff. I have got see those Neil Young and Rodriguez documentaries soon though.

Oh wait, I watched this, which was good...
Surprisingly good. Turns out it originally aired in 2011, so it only took me two years to find out it existed. Jesus.

Now, music...I haven't enjoyed much new music so far this year, to be honest. I've been to a lot of great gigs (Thee Oh Sees, Mick Harvey, Snapper, Neil Young & Crazy Horse), but as far as new albums go there's just been jack shit. I guess it's only April, though.
Anyway, what I've liked so far:

This album completely took me by surprise. I didn't even like this band before I heard this album. I still don't really like their other albums. But this one's pretty damn good. I kind of can't stop listening to it. I'm tossing up whether to go to their gig.

I'm also madly in love with Ex-Cult's self-titled album which came out last November...but I'm still listening to it. Or, rather, it took me ages to get around to finding the download card that came with the vinyl. And then putting it on my ipod and making anyone who drives me around listen to it. I've found that 4am with your ex in our city's scodier suburbs is the best time and place.

Fuckin' wild thrashy-screamy-garagey, my favourite. They used to be called Sex Cult, which is a way better name in my opinion. But what do you expect from a smut-peddling filth merchant like myself. Anyway, before they changed their name, they were discovered by Ty Segall at SXSW. He produced this album, which that explains why I like it so much. Speaking of late 2012 albums, Sic Alps self-titled is also completely and utterly amazing. But so far it's been impossible to find on vinyl, so I haven't been able to listen to it as much as I'd like to.

Oh and this one is really interesting:

It's pretty fucking crazy weird. It sounds like every awesome 80s movie you've ever seen. Especially The Labyrinth or The Never-Ending Story. This album, Elemental Themes, was released back in October 2012 but I just stumbled across it last week. It is so so 80s that I almost want to laugh when I listen to it. I mean I'm not even sure how much I like it. Certainly not enough to buy it. But it's just so fucking weird that I want other people to listen to it so I guess that's why I'm writing about it. I mean, I think it's interesting and challenging which is different from just really liking something. It requires a different approach. Anyway, listen to it if you like loopy 80s sci-fi movies. Or loopy proggy stuff.

I liked Atoms For Peace as well but I need to listen to it more before I decide to post pictures and links and wank on about how great I think it is. Same with Wavves's new album. Looking forward to The Black Angels' and My Bloody Valentine's new albums though. I haven't got around to listening to Beach Fossils' new album yet. Damn.

In other news, Bieber released "Believe Acoustic" which made me want to shoot myself in the face.
