Well I very much dislike the song 'Hollywood' by Marina & the Diamonds but I love this quote. I guess her attitude is good, it's just too bad her music sounds like boring pop.

"I’ve felt both rich and poor, very ugly and very beautiful, and I’ve conformed and been an outsider, as well. I suppose the song’s a way of saying, ‘I’m not this. I’m not gonna be a dumbo who doesn’t know what the hell is going on.’ I think, without getting into conspiracy theories, that most people don’t realize that they’re being bombarded everyday with who they should be, and you are, especially in America and the U.K. And that’s what Hollywood is about—it’s about breaking free of that and being your true self, which is who you’d be if you were living in a cave 2,000 years ago. I always think, ‘What would you do if you were in a cave, Marina?’ So that’s my basis for everything. I just wanna be myself."

"When I really love someone, I can only show it by making aggressive and bad-taste remarks."

"Fantasy love is much better than reality love. The most exciting attractions are between two opposites that never meet."

"No one gets the relationship they deserve. For some people this is the cause of unending resentment, for some people it is the source of unending desire. And for some people the most important thing is that they have found something that doesn't end."

"Madness is too glamorous a term to convey what happens to most people who are losing their minds. That word is too exciting, too literary, too interesting in its connotations, to convey the boredom, the slowness, the dreariness, the dampness of depression…depression is pure dullness, tedium straight up. Depression is, especially these days, an overused term to be sure, but never one associated with anything wild, anything about dancing all night with a lampshade on your head and then going home and killing yourself…The word madness allows its users to celebrate the pain of its sufferers, to forget that underneath all the acting-out and quests for fabulousness and fine poetry, there is a person in huge amounts of dull, ugly agony…Remember that when you’re at the point at which you’re doing something as desperate and violent as sticking your head in an oven, it is only because the life that preceded this act felt even worse. Think about living in depression from moment to moment, and know it is not worth any of the great art that comes as its by-product." - Elizabeth Wurtzel

"I can’t stand “real” men. Masculinity is trash. Go cry in a corner, write in a diary, hug your mom. Please. I’ve felt the painful consequences of this posturing for too long; seen fragile men who never should have been told to be anything else in the first place crack under the weight of our flawed expectations. Let our boys paint. Let them wear skinny jeans and read Ellison. However soft spoken or uncoordinated, leave them be. If you don’t, you and me will have a serious problem." - Joshua Bennett

"Drinking is an emotional thing. It joggles you out of everyday life, out of everything being the same. It yanks you out of your body and your mind and throws you against the wall. I have the feeling that drinking is a form of suicide where you're allowed to return to life and begin all over the next day. It's like killing yourself, and then you're reborn. I guess I've lived about ten or fifteen thousand lives now."
—Charles Bukowski

"Some people turn sad awfully young. No special reason, it seems, but they seem almost to be born that way. They bruise easier, tire faster, cry quicker, remember longer and, as I say, get sadder younger than anyone else in the world. I know, for I’m one of them."

- Ray Bradbury

“I’m not sure that I want to be political, but I think the true feminine has been denied and is really being written out. It’s got just a tiny little edge of the screen and I think that’s why so many women are so down on themselves. You don’t really witness the true feminine at work very often at the moment, but I know that she’s bubbling underneath, and things like eating disorders, they’re symptomatic of that, because she’s being denied. She’s being forced out of existence, but whenever you repress something or deny something it comes back with such a force."
— KatieJane Garside, Dazed & Confused, 2000.
